It is possible to obtain disposable waterproof cameras which are popular with those who are going on a beach vacation. Lots of companies are producing cameras for children to use and so they can join in the fun too.

The cost of a good waterproof camera can range anywhere between $20 and $500 but ideally it should last you for many years. Many of the waterproof cameras that are at the top end of the budget are digital and they can sometimes cost over $1,000. This is only really necessary if you take underwater photography very seriously or need this equipment for your career. You can get well turned out photographs from the lower end of the price range too.

So how do you begin your search for the ideal waterproof camera? First of all, you need to determine why and where you are going to use the camera. You then need to ascertain how frequently you will use it and what functions you would like it to have. The decision then needs to be made as to whether you prefer digital equipment or cameras that load film. The last consideration is how much you are willing to spend to buy the equipment.

Once you have all of these decisions made, you can start your search for your perfect camera. It may be helpful to check out waterproof digital camera reviews if you are thinking that digital is the best options for you. Waterproof digital camera reviews can be found on many photography based websites. The cameras have been tried and tested and this will give you some idea about which models you should definitely avoid, depending on your requirements.

Once all the waterproof digital camera reviews have been read, you can choose your favorite and order it online. Many retailers have this facility and the ordering process is speedy and straightforward. Often the camera is delivered to your doorstop within a matter of days.

After you have received your camera, it is important that you look after it properly so that you can get the best out of it for a long time. Once you have finished a session underwater, rinse the camera with clean water as soon as you can. This way the salt crystals will be dissolved and will not affect the running of the camera. Check the equipment for sand, grit and foreign bodies on a regular basis. These materials can cause the camera to stop working if left to accumulate. If the equipment is going to be left on the shelf for over a month, then remove the batteries.

Choosing a waterproof camera makes vacations and water based activities so much more fun. You can get creative and make some wonderful memories to treasure for the rest of your life. It will be so enjoyable that you will find it hard to come out of the water! - 29892

Maldives Resorts Are Threatened By Sea Level Change

By Sarah Brooke

The Maldives archipelago consists of around 1200 islands covering an area of approximately 800 kilometers in the Indian Ocean, and they are generally thought to be some of the most beautiful tropical islands on our planet. These islands, and indeed this country, are threatened by rising sea levels since they are all only a couple of meters above sea level.

Even a small increase in sea levels, eg. half a metre would relinquish many of the islands back to the Indian Ocean, and make pretty much all of them virtually uninhabitable. Maldives islands such Bandos island, Baros island, Filitheyo island and Kuredu island which are popular destinations for thousands of visitors each years may be lost to the sea within a matter of decades.

These islands are not only threatened by sea-level rises however, they are also under threat from ocean warming. Coral reefs are very sensitive to change in temperature and warmer oceans would destroy these reefs that play a significant part in protecting islands from wave erosion.

Whilst global warming has tended to be a point of conjecture among environmentalists, the unprecedented event of the rapid melting of Arctic sea ice in 2007 has caused many environmentalists to agree that warming is not only inevitable, but is happening more rapidly than was originally suspected.

In 2008 a leading climatologist, James Hansen, published a research paper which demonstrated that the actual safe limit for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was at most 350 parts per million, anything higher than that causing significant negative environmental effects globally. We have already reached that level with the current concentration at 390 ppm and rising.

It isnt only the Maldives who are rightfully on the verge of panic, countries like Bangladesh are already suffering saltwater flooding as sea levels rise and engulf low-lying land; Australia is experiencing severe droughts year after year as its climate changes, and forests across western North America and suffering from to pest insects that are multiplying in the warmer climate.

The fact that many countries are already suffering the effects of global warming is probably the main reason why no one is totally happy with the recent pledge of the G8 nations to take steps to try and restrict temperature increase to 2 degrees and atmospheric concentration of Carbon Dioxide to 450 parts per million. A few years ago, these levels might have been realistic but current scientific findings indicate that they are out of date.

Later this month, over 100 world leaders will meet at New York for the United Nations Climate Change Summit. On 24th October 2009, the Maldives will hold the largest underwater political demonstration in history with snorkelers and divers taking banners down to the coral reefs as a reminder to everyone of what is at stake. We cannot be really how long it will be but it seems inevitable that holidays to the Maldives may be over in the future. - 29892

Things to do in Belize

By Deb Corbeil

Belize City is known as one of the most dangerous towns in Central America, according to some guide books. Most people use it as a quick stop before heading off to the beaches, or cruise passengers simply spend their time shopping in the terminal or heading off on an organized tour.

Whatever your vision of Central America is, check it at the door before entering this beautiful and welcoming country. Many travel guides will tell you to "get out of Belize City and head for the islands." It is too bad really, because they are causing people to miss out on meeting the very proud and helpful citizens of this vibrant town.

Belize is steadily growing as a popular stop for Cruise liners. The terminal is one of the nicest buildings in the city filled with shops and eateries. Passengers rarely leave here unless they are running off on a tour to see the sites. It is too bad for Cruisers, they never really see the real Caribbean cities that they visit. Each Terminal looks and feels like the last and yet to walk around the downtown area, you will find a unique energy and vibe.

Belize has an eclectic mix of architecture. In the 16th century it was settled by the English and the buildings reflect that era. There is your typical colonial architecture, you will see churches and modern buildings are starting to crop up. There is a wide variety in Language as well. The official language is English, but if you listen to conversations, people speak with a mix of Creole. They also speak Spanish, Mayan and German.

After soaking up the culture and cuisine in the country's largest city, catch a water taxi to head out to Caye Caulker. For $10, you will be transported to paradise. Far less crowded than its overdeveloped neighbor Ambergris Caye, this little island is a gem of a destination.

Far less developed and existing quietly with nature, Caye Caulker is a nice alternative to the busy and touristy Ambergris Caye. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the island and thankfully there aren't any plans for resort development in its future. Rates are still quite reasonable and you will enjoy relaxing the day away.

While there, you have to take in the sites and the number one excursion is to hire a guide and boat to take you out to Shark Ray Alley. Located 1 mile from shore is the Belize Barrier Reef. A protected marine preserve for since 1996, it has a healthy stock of marine life and coral. The highlight of the trip however is having the chance to swim with a group of nurse sharks and manta rays that inhabit the reef.

Many divers in the world travel to Belize for one reason only, and that is to dive the famous Blue Hole. Jaques Cousteau introduced it to the world and it is an awesome site. A collapsed cave in the middle of the sea attracts divers that want to go deep. Drop down to 150 feet and dive under overhangs as hammerhead and reef sharks swim in the chummed waters above. This dive is not for new divers.

You don't just have to go out to the Cayes to dive and snorkel. Sail boat trips are popular as well. There are several places to go to and why not explore some of the other surrounding islands. Walk down the main dirt road of Caye Caulker and you will find companies offering up excursions and ideas.

Dining is high on everyone's list when traveling and Caye Caulker has its fair share of restaurants. There is jerk chicken, fresh seafood and western flare. After dinner stop in at a beach bar and enjoy a cocktail as you look out over the Caribbean Sea. You won't find crazy nightclubs, but you will find a great bar to listen to music while you relax in the islands.

Belize is certainly full of many more sights. It boasts rainforest's and islands, and the largest cave system in Central America. It is teeming with wildlife from Howler Monkeys to Jaguars. Like its surrounding neighbors, it has Mayan Ruins scattered throughout the country for you to enjoy and beautiful beaches can be found everywhere, the best being in Placencia on the mainland.

It won't take long until development catches hold in Belize and it turns into another Cancun. Unfortunately, that is the way of the world. So don't wait, visit Belize today and get to know the people of this laid back country filled with beautiful scenery and breathtaking views. - 29892

The Underwater Digital Camera Housing: Why It Is So Important

By Randy Rushmore

You may have doubts about how waterproof your digital camera really is and just to be on the safe side you may wish to purchase an underwater digital camera housing case. These clever gadgets are designed to be a watertight seal around the camera and protect it from the elements. They are generally made of sturdy materials such as aluminum and moulded plastic.

Many cameras say that they are waterproof but there is no guarantee of exactly how waterproof it actually is. There is no way of telling beforehand if the camera is likely to get damaged if it goes down too far in the water. This is entirely the reason why so many photographers purchase an underwater digital camera housing even though the guidelines say that there equipment is already waterproof.

It is important to note that these housings are designed to fit specific brands and models and so it is highly unlikely that you will find a "one size that fits all" underwater digital camera housing. The amount you will pay for this equipment differs greatly; you may find one that only costs $30 whereas many are selling for amounts like $450. The higher the cost, the more likely that the underwater digital camera housing is more specific about which brand it can be used with.

You may think that this is quite an expensive attachment, but it is worth the money if it means that you do not have to replace your camera. If you are serious about underwater photography then it pays to keep your equipment in perfect working order so that it lasts you a lifetime.

If you are just going for a short vacation near the sea, then you will not want to spend a lot of cash. In this instance it is advisable to buy a disposable waterproof camera. With a disposable waterproof camera the aim is to use the equipment only a few times and then it can be chucked away after use. You will find a disposable waterproof camera for sale in many local outlets and it is a way of getting great pictures for a small amount of money.

Similarly, there are many retailers on the World Wide Web that can provide you with the housing you need for your digital camera. The information on which brand is compatible with which camera is easy to browse through. Many stockists offer online discounts and may offer free delivery or shipping direct to your door.

Once you receive your underwater digital camera housing unit, it is important to test it for leaks. You can do this by placing the camera in the unit and then submersing it in a tub of water. If you see any bubbles then it is most likely there is a leak. You should also test the unit before using it in the water for the first time. There are O Rings placed around the outside of the unit which are vital in keeping the camera waterproof. If these are damaged or become clogged with hair or dust, it may develop into a slow leak.

Purchasing an underwater digital camera housing unit is one of the best ways to ensure your camera does not get damaged and that you are free to take some spectacular photographs of the fascinating underwater world. - 29892

A Short Overview of Waterproof Digital Camera Housing Products

By Randy Rushmore

If you would like to put your digital camera to good use and love to be near the water, then it is a wise move to buy a waterproof digital camera housing. A housing is a product that is designed to prevent salt water from damaging an underwater camera. It is also a useful tool for preventing accidental damage to the equipment.

A quick search on the internet will bring up a wealth of waterproof digital camera housing products to choose from. The amount you can expect to pay for these products can range in between $50 and $600. It is usually the case that purchasing a camera housing online works out cheaper than buying it locally and many sellers deliver free of charge.

Is it important to point out that not all waterproof digital camera housing products will automatically fit on any camera. For instance, if you have a scuba camera that is a certain band and model, you will have to locate a housing unit that is compatible with that particular camera. This can have an impact on how much you will be charged for these kinds of products.

Whether you are buying a scuba camera for diving to great depths or a general digital camera, you will find more information about compatible accessories and attachments on the internet. There are many community forums and specialized websites that are dedicated to the world of underwater photography.

Should you decide to buy a waterproof digital camera housing product, then it needs to be well looked after. This will ensure that it lasts a lot longer than your average attachment. The first thing to do once you get it out of the box is to place your camera inside it and dunk it into some water. You need to be looking for any bubbles which will indicate that there is a leak in the housing. Many professionals recommend that you do this test again before you take your equipment into the sea for the first time.

There are parts of the housing unit that are called O Rings and they are the bits that ensure the camera remains waterproofed. It is essential that you check the O Rings regularly for any signs of dirt, sand or dust. This is because these materials can affect the efficiency of the waterproof digital camera housing unit and it may develop a slow leak.

It is recommended that you take any digital camera or scuba camera along with its housing to a repairman every so often. He will be able to give a complete once over and just ensure that everything is working as it should be.

It is all about knowing where to go, what to see and which locations to combine to get the most out of your experience in Cuba. This island has such a rich culture, history, architecture and Nature that when you put all together you have ideal recipe for an unforgettable holiday.

Lets look at places like Varadero, Jibacoa, Guardalavaca, cayo Coco, Cayo Largo, Cayo Santa Maria and so many other beach destinations with white sandy beaches and turquoise color waters. To chose among all of them could be a difficult task. Some places like Varadero are better in terms of infrastructure and things you can do out side your hotel while the rest are more for the purpose of pure relaxation.

Pinar del Rio province has the most attractive landscapes in Cuba especially those of Vinales Valley where the best tobacco of the world is harvested every year. Soroa and last Terrazas also in Pinar del Rio are especially attractive among those interested in hiking, tracking and bird watching.

Trinidad de Cuba one of the most beautiful cities in Cuba was declared World Heritage Site in 1986 by UNESCO. Today Trinidad still looks the same it was 300 years ago. Trinidad also has the best beaches in the Caribbean side of Cuba so if you want to blend a bit of culture and relaxation then Trinidad is definitely the place to go.

Havana has to be my favourite place. Not only was I born in Havana and know it quite well, I can say with confidence that I have walked every corner of this amazing City. You have to visit Havana if you really want to feel you have been to Cuba. I particularly recommend the Old Town area to stay and the night clubs of Vedado neighborhood.

You can put together as many locations as it make sense depending on your on time and travel distances in between places. Of course the budget is determinant in deciding what to see. Cuba is a large island and sometimes you have to travel 6 hours on the road to go from A to B and that comes at a high price.

Cuba has accumulated in the last 4 centuries a wealth of history and character. Especially in the last 50 years after the triumph of Castro's revolution in 1959. Some consider it all might change soon so my advice is to start planning your holidays sooner rather than later. - 29892

Never have Cuba holidays been so popular among holiday makers until recent years, especially after its government opened its doors to tourism and foreign investment. For some this amazing Caribbean island is a must in the agenda of most interesting places in the world.

Cuba is the largest of the Antilles and offers a wide variety of holidays. If you are looking for just relaxation on a beach resort or get to know the island by joining an escorted tour Cuba certainly does not lack options

Guardalavaca in the eastern part of Cuba should be considered as number one option for those looking for just relaxation on a beach resort. It is not too commercialized as perhaps other beach locations in Cuba and it is definitely one of the best places for snorkeling in Cuba.

Interested in Nature? Well then you have to explore the mountains, valleys and rivers of Cuba. Pinar del Rio area, Escambray Mountain and Sierra Maestra are the richest in terms of natural attributes.

Baracoa in the eastern most part of Cuba is one of the most charismatic villages in Cuba from the Spanish Colonial Times. Its mountainous surroundings make it also ideal for those who enjoy direct contact with nature.
